1. Where the name comes from
Local legend says the mushroom grows where drops of a tigress’s milk fell to the ground while she was nursing her cubs. In Malay it’s called Cendawan Susu Rimau, with the same meaning.
2. The part that matters: the sclerotium
The mushroom has three parts: the cap and stem above ground, and a tuber-like sclerotium buried in the soil. The sclerotium is the part that has traditionally been harvested and used.
3. Why wild tiger milk mushroom is so rare
It grows deep in the rainforest, usually as a single mushroom rather than in clusters. For generations it could only be found by forest-savvy indigenous communities, so supply was small and quality inconsistent.
Malaysian researchers later succeeded in cultivating it, making a steady supply possible with more consistent, testable quality.
4. How it has traditionally been used
